Light responsive system, dual regulation
Pbad regulated phycobilins (ho1 and pcyA) followed by Ptet regulated light sensor (Cph8). This should allow repressed Pbad to give low levels of accessory proteins and derepressed Ptet to crank out lots of light sensor protein
Usage and Biology
[http://www.pnas.org/cgi/doi/10.1073/pnas.191375198 Gambetta and Lagarias] suggest that induction of the phycobilins before the apophytochrome (Cph8) can significantly increase its yield, possibly because the bilin can cotranslationally covalently attach and stabilize nascent apophytochrome, preventing misfolding.
